Simple Tips for Making Your Hair Extensions Last Longer

Posted by at in Hair

shutterstock_253575808_optInvesting in a great pair of extensions is a difficult task for many of us. But when we finally take the plunge, and make this costly purchase, we really need to take care of our investment! Hair extensions maintenance should be done often to help your extensions remain silky, shiny, and gorgeous. Whether your extensions are real or synthetic, you will have to invest in products to help them maintain their best condition. Here are some very useful tips to help you maintain your extensions:

Brush, brush, brush

This is probably the most simple step, but the most often overlooked. Brushing your hair extensions is critical for keeping them detangled and knot free. You should brush your hair at least twice a day using a brush that helps with detangling. It’s critical that you start from the bottom and work your way up to the top to help with fallout and to make sure you don’t loosen them or pull them out. If you skip brushing, the natural fallout that you experience everyday will tangle with your extensions and they will look messier and become matted.

Limit the heat

If you are anything like me, you love to curl and straighten your extensions for different looks. This does terrible damage to your extensions though. If they are real, they will start to look crunchy and the ends will start to split quickly. So, definitely try to lay off the heat. If you must use heat though, try to use ionic irons and dryers to help minimize the damage.

Wash and condition

This is probably my least favorite step because I feel like it is time consuming, but I know I must do it. Your extensions will definitely benefit from a good wash every once in awhile. Try to use paraben and sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners to prevent damage or buildup in your extensions. I love to use Biolage Color Last Shampoo and Macadamia Oil Deep Repair Mask because that is what I regularly use in my own hair and it makes it feel fantastic. Don’t forget to dry your extensions and spray them with a heat protectant before doing so.

*The Macadamia Oil Mask is about half the price on Amazon as it is in drugstores.

Did You Use Expired Mascara This Morning?

Posted by at in Makeup

When To Dispose Of MakeupChances are that you’ve been using expired makeup products for months and didn’t even know it! Since spring is right around the corner, it’s the perfect time to finish up some Netflix series, eat a Soba Noodle Bowl from Panera, and reorganize your makeup bag.

Since expired cosmetics can irritate the skin and cause eye infections, it’s important to pay attention to the lifespan of your makeup. Most products will have a jar symbol on them with a numeral that signifies the number of months you have until the item is no longer usable. The easiest way I have found to keep track though, is simply to write on all of my makeup products with a sharpie to help me remember when I opened them.

There are a lot of times that your makeup can even tell you that it is officially done! If your gloss is goopy, your nail polish is separating, or your mascara is flaking all over the place, then it is time to bid it adieu. If you are a makeup expert and know when to get rid of your cosmetics, then your makeup should serve you well. If not, here are some guidelines to help you know when to replace your favorite makeup products:

What Are Your 5 Favorite Makeup Brushes?

Posted by at in Beauty, Favorite Products, Makeup

shutterstock_181902668_opt YAY, you made it through Monday! Happy Tuesday everyone. I was wondering what your absolute favorite makeup brushes are at the moment? Here are some of my favorites…

1. NARS Ita Kabuki Brush

If you are a makeup addict, then you have probably heard about the NARS Ita Kabuki brush that everyone is currently raving about. Unfortuantely, it’s sold out almost everywhere! Thankfully, I was able to order it online and give it a try.

First, I would usually NEVER spend this much money on a brush, but after trying it out in stores, I knew it would be a great investment. This brush is designed specifically for contouring. It has a sleek thin handles and super soft dense bristles. The bristles are dense enough to evenly spread out the product, but soft enough to blend out harsh edges and leave a seamless finish.

If you struggle with contouring, this brush will be your new best friend! It really will make the process SO much easier!

2. Laura Mercier Fan Brush

This is one brush that many people think they don’t need. It is often overlooked in the makeup world, but EVERYONE needs a fan brush in their collection. There’s no better way to apply highlighter than with this little number.

This is a pricier fan brush, but if you are going to purchase one, don’t you want it to be awesome? A lot of other fan brushes are flimsy and way too soft to get the job done. The Laura Mercier Fan Brush is great because it is denser and holds its shape better. I think that it is the most perfect brush for setting powder. It is such a great fan brush and it is oh-so-soft too!

3. Sigma F80 Flat Top Kabuki Brush

If there was only one face brush that I was ever allowed to use again, it would for sure be this one! This is my holy grail makeup brush, without a doubt. I don’t like to apply anything with my fingers, so I use this brush because it’s great for almost everything.

The greatest part…it’s only $20 dollars! For a holy grail brush, you can’t beat that!! I use it for everything — foundation, contouring powder, bronzer, blush, and even highlighting! It’s just that great. You may notice that some brushes leave lines and streaks on your face, but with this brush there is none of that. Everything looks so smooth and blended evenly.

This brush is like a bunch of little brushes in one, it has so many uses. You may never need another brush again….

4. Anastasia Beverly Hills Mini Duo Brush #7

I think that the eyebrows are the hardest part of makeup to master. I had the most difficult time filling them in the beginning. Then I found the amazing Anastasia Brow products, and I was officially saved.

This brush is perfect for lining underneath of the brow so you get that crisp clean look. It is also great for blending product throughout the brow. It makes your eyebrows look so much more natural. If you’re really good you can combo this brush with an eyebrow pencil, but if you’re a beginner you need to start with this brush. It will make the learning process so much easier!

5. Bare Minerals Maximum Coverage Concealer Brush

Ah! This brush is just amazing!

It can be SO hard to cover up dark spots or circles sometimes, but this brush will help you do the job. It has flat stiff fibers that won’t clog up with creamy concealers. It enables you to carefully cover any unwanted blemishes because it has a perfectly tapered tip. Concealer is one product that I will not leave the house without, and this brush makes it super quick and easy to conceal before running out the door.

It’s also the perfect size for putting on eye shadow primer! A little pricey at $20, but well worth the money.

My Favorite Detangler Brush Just Got Better

Posted by at in Hair

Sparkly Michel Mercier Detangler Brush

My favorite detangler brush now comes in a SPARKLY version! Could this brush get any better?!

I love my sleep and at night after I shower, I barely blow dry my hair. So, when I wake up in the morning it is so knotty and tangled. I used to have really hard time brushing it. It hurt so bad! Then a friend bought me the Michel Mercier Detangler Brush for Christmas and it made detangling my hair so much easier!

It is not completely pain free, but it is such an improvement. I think that as long as you start at the bottom and work your way up, this brush works perfectly. I really like the shape of this brush too. The handle is long and easy to hold.  It works perfectly whether my hair is wet or dry, and never slips from my hand.

I use the No Tangle Brush on my niece too (who turns four today OMG). She hated having her hair brushed before we bought this, and now she sometimes will fall asleep while I’m brushing her how…that’s how easy it is!

Did I mention how much I love the new design? It is so cute and I love that it’s sparkly!! These will make great gifts this year for Christmas for anyone.

I’d love to hear what you think of the new design, or your thoughts on the brush overall!!

Kim Kardashian: Best Hair & Makeup…Worst Grammy Date!

Posted by at in Fashion, Hair, Makeup

Of course, I wanted to go ahead and talk about the Grammy Awards, since they were just the other night. I always LOVE watching the Grammys too see what everyone is wearing, what their hair looks like, and of course, their makeup! This year, I was a little disappointed by the outfit choices though. Rihanna’s dress was huge, Kim Kardashian wore a bathrobe, and I don’t even know what Madonna was wearing…it just wasn’t good!

BUT…Did you see Kim Kardashian’s hair and makeup? LOVED it! Her new “bob-ish” hair is my fave! It was perfectly texturized for the Grammys, and even though I would expect something a little more glam, I was still super happy with this hair. I think that this was probably the best choice since I don’t think she could have had super glam hair because she was already wearing a super glam…bath robe.

Anyways, I still loved her hair and makeup look. Here is a video so you can see too, incase you didn’t watch. I’m sure you did though!

I kind of had a change of heart for the Kimye couple after the Grammys the other night though. We all remember back in 2009, when Kanye West decided to interrupt Taylor Swifts Grammy win. Well, he almost did it again the other night while Beck was receiving an award. Everyone laughed because they all though it was a big joke. Then Kanye went backstage and bashed Beck saying he didn’t really deserve the award, Beyonce did.

It was a little weird that he felt the need to come to Beyonce’s defense…AGAIN. I don’t really see him going to Kim’s defense too often, but he is always there for Beyonce.

He wasn’t even in that category though! So, just sit down Kanye.

Here is his speech about how beck should have respected “artistry” and given Beyonce the Grammy.

Who is he talking about when he says, “We tired of it!”? It seems like a direct diss towards white people. If a white artist had dissed a black artist like this at multiple Grammy awards, there would be an uproar. They’d be destroyed by the media and the music industry. It is hard to know what his intentions were with that speech, but there has been no clarification, so I’m going to have to take it as it stands.

He sort of apologized to Beck in a Kanye type of way. So, hopefully that resolves things, and maybe at the next Grammy awards Beyonce will make the best album so we can keep him in his seat!
